10 Beauty Habits To Start For The New Year
Since it’s just after the New Year and we’re all focusing on health and wellness, there’s no better time to start creating new habits.
Here are some therapeutic beauty habits you can consider starting in 2018 for a happier, more confident and beautiful you.
1. Find a skincare routine that works
In 2018, consider what you want to achieve for your skin and focus on finding a routine that addresses your specific concerns. Whether it’s saying goodbye to acne, controlling sebum production or minimising pores, focus on creating a routine that works for you. Make this the year you embrace new products or methods, and try to get your complexion looking fabulous.
2. Establish a regular skincare routine
Once you’ve settled on a routine, commit to it religiously for results. Carve time out of your busy schedule daily and devote it to your face (neck, body and hair while you’re at it). It can be an incredibly therapeutic process to commit to a regular routine. Apart from being a wonderful way to unwind after a stressful day, your skin will thank you for it.
3. Drink sufficient water
For a beauty boost, grab a glass of H2O. This isn’t new information but it’s worth repeating: dehydration messes with your skin. Water flushes toxins out of the body, hydrates the system and makes your skin feel healthy and fresh. Do yourself a favour by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Other ways you can boost hydration:
1) Add hydrating foods such as watermelon, tomatoes and cucumber to your diet
2) Avoid excess alcohol, caffeine and salty food
3) Commit to a trusty moisturiser to ensure your skin retains hydration
4. Protect your skin from the sun
You. Must. Wear. Sunscreen. Protect yourself daily from skin cancer and premature aging by slathering on sunscreen. Good thing SPF is easy to incorporate into your daily routine. Always apply sunscreen before leaving the house and reapply throughout the day for maximum protection. Make SPF a habit and your skin will love you for it.
More than simple coverage against the sun, DrGL® Sun Protection Mist helps fight cell-damaging free radicals while covering you from head to toe from the sun.
5. Clear out your skincare stash regularly
Have you checked the expiry of your skincare and makeup recently? These products don’t last forever. Know when to clear out your stash and do it regularly. By dumping these old items, you’re lowering the risk of transferring bacteria to your skin. Plus, you’re basically clearing space to make way for new, better products and that’s always a good thing.
6. Get sufficient sleep
The beauty benefits of sleep are very real. Apart from dark eye circles, lack of sleep causes skin to look pale and tired because circulation is affected. Our largest organ needs time for cellular renewal and whether you’ve been catching your 40 winks or not will show on your skin so make sure you’re getting every second of sleep you need!
7. Skincare doesn’t stop at your face
We’re so preoccupied with taking care of our face that it’s easy to forget the rest of our body. This year, commit to a body care routine. Cleanse gently, moisturise regularly, exfoliate weekly and protect skin from sun exposure. Once in a while, leave it to the professionals to pamper your body with a body mask, polish, or massage for improved blood circulation, skin texture and overall health.
8. Exercise regularly
Exercise is usually associated with body benefits, but it’s worth acknowledging its beauty benefits as well. Exercise is as good for the skin as it is for the psyche as it enhances blood flow which helps skin cells regenerate, removes toxins efficiently and ensures the skin receives more nutrients and oxygen. Get moving this year to keep both your skin and body in top shape.
9. Eat better
You are what you eat. For clear and youthful skin, make sure you eat healthy. A good and well-rounded diet loaded with greens and antioxidants is the way to go. We know it’s not easy but the good news is, you don’t have to go cold turkey. Start slowly by cutting out unnecessary junk and sugar from your diet, throw in some vegetable juices here and there and you’re off to a promising start.
10. Make time for yourself
One of the best things you can do is to make time for yourself. Take the necessary steps to ensure that you are caring for your overall wellness. If you’re unhappy with who you are, all the skincare and beauty products of the world won’t be able to compensate for that. Do you need to need to exercise to manage your stress? Meditate? Create a system that works for you and prioritise yourself.
Embrace 2018 with new habits and make it your most gorgeous year yet!
