Give Yourself an Effective Home Facial

To help maintain youthful skin, and lengthen and reinforce the effects of your treatment facials, you should give yourself an at-home facial in-between your facial appointments.

Home Facial Steps

Unlike your regular skincare routine, an at-home facial is more thorough. Every step takes extra care and attention. Detail is everything. And always apply the skincare on your face over your décolletage as well.

Step 1: Remove Makeup

The first step is to remove makeup and surface grime. a double cleanse. Whether you have sunscreen and makeup, makeup alone or just sunscreen on your skin, you need a dedicated makeup remover to remove all dirt, excess sebum, makeup and sunscreen. This is especially important since more makeup formulas are now long-wearing and require some effort to remove. You can use a dual-phase makeup remover, oil cleanser, micellar water or a cleanser that gets rid of makeup and cleans skin like the DrGL® Cleanser Makeup Remover.

Step 2: Cleanse Skin

The second cleanse is to clean deep into the pores to remove any impurities. This requires a cleanser that suits your skin type and condition. If you use a micellar water to remove your makeup or sunscreen, you can also use the micellar water a second time to cleanse your skin.

Step 3: Exfoliate

Depending on your skin type, you can either use a form of exfoliant, or a deep-cleansing clay mask to remove impurities and unclog congested pores. If your skin is very oily, or if you have a lot of comedones, opt for a clay or mud mask. Be sure not to leave it on for longer than the prescribed duration as that would cause your skin to get drier, and produce even more sebum later.

If your skin is not overly oily, you can opt for a face scrub or a chemical exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants are suitable for all skin types and are gentle enough to use on acne-prone skin. They are made with lactic, salicylic and mandalic acids.

Step 4: Prep and Tone

After all that cleanse, it’s time to bring a balance to the skin. Apply a toner like DrGL® Toner Oil Control which protects skin’s natural moisture barrier and has the added benefit of intensifying collagen formation to plump up skin from within.

Step 5: Hydrate

Instead of using a hydrating serum, use a hydrating mask like the DrGL® Restore Gel Mask. This would help plump skin, make it softer and smoother, and more importantly, boost skin functions. No matter the type of mask used, sheet, gel or cream, you should always massage your skin as you apply.

Step 6: Treat

After hydrating your skin, reach for a treatment serum or mask to target any specific skin issues you may have. If you are concerned with wrinkles and sagging skin, opt for a age-delaying care serum like the DrGL® Collagen Essence. Also, massage everything into the skin, and remember to spread it over your décolletage.

Step 7: Moisturise

The last step is the moisturiser. The role of a moisturiser is to seal in all the goodness from your serums and masks, and must not be skipped. Simply spread it over your two palms and firmly pressed over your face.

Go Small, Win Big

If you do not have the time for an extensive at-home facial, try a mini one instead. Check out the DrGL® Perk Me Up Mini Facial Kit that gives you everything you need, namely the Restore Gel Mask and Essence Anti-Aging, aside from the cleansers, for a quick home facial.
