Look For These In A Good Moisturiser

#1: Hyaluronic acid

This popular skincare ingredient has been likened to a giant sponge or to moisture magnets but either way, this is what your skin needs to stay hydrated.

Did you know?

Your skin has its own reserve of hyaluronic acid but this depletes with age.

Fun fact: Hyaluronic acid, also known as sodium hyaluronate, is said to hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water.

#2: Antioxidants

It’s not just enough to keep your skin moisturised. You’ll want your skincare to work harder for you. A good moisturiser should also have antioxidants to help fight free radicals and inflammation, and keep skin looking youthful.

Did you know? Some examples of antioxidant-rich plant ingredients are sea buckthorn and algae. Sea buckthorn is prized for its superior wound-healing properties.

Fun fact: Sea buckthorn is also referred to as sea berry but here’s the irony – it doesn’t grow in the sea but high up on the mountains

#3: A light, non-sticky texture

In a humid climate like ours, how a product feels on your skin is just as important as how it works. Anything too oily and sticky will deter you from applying it regularly. So, choose a moisturiser in a light gel formula – it won’t clog pores too!

Did you know? Always apply moisturiser right after a bath as damp skin takes in moisture better.

Fun fact: In ancient times, honey, castor oil and even bread mixed with milk were used as face moisturisers.

Former women's magazine editor Pearlyn Tham bought her first foam cleanser and liquid foundation at the age of 13. More than 20 years later, she has since moved on to eye creams, liquid lipsticks and - her security blanket - sunscreens.
